“ UR MY SUNSHINE ” a strange but familiarly kind remark that has been covered by various musical legends since the 40s and has since become the epitome of American culture. The objective for the three-way collaboration consisting of WISDOM® X URBAN RESEARCH ft. MING YU is to introduce stylistic elements into strong undertones of daily life and preserve the satirical and mischevious elements critical to streetwear.
A year later, the illustrator MING launches a new fictional character, ARRGO, based on variations to his classic smiley face. The shape is a smoke-like silhouette with the random interjection of conductive pathways to produce a fuzzy feel and create a whole new character concept inspired by the mischief and humor of American culture. The written tagline “UR MY SUNSHINE” is the topic, the black humor imbued into life is our daily reality, and the scorn on ARRGO's face seems even more apparent. The design team wanted to realize the concept of “entering homes” and designed an exclusive oatmeal container with storage bag. Playful elements can be found on the container too with a corner especially designed for doodling and an American-style tag of Hard Level Taro to up the playfulness of this collaboration.
In terms of design, the collaboration continues the Japanese streetwear style with an American spirit and introduces quality through typeface for a preppy American leisure look. The colors are predominantly black, grey, and white with large areas of neon green for contrast. The clean designs and future digital impressions that are characteristic to WISDOM® is also infused into the line. The line is comprised of long-and short-sleeved T-shirts made from moisture-wicking 3M pure cotton fabrics, ultra-lightweight and water repellant oversized cargo pants, bucket hats, and other accessories, forming a collection of conflict between retro and modern through outfit variations that accentuates the playful and mischevious concept through the juxtaposition of virtual and reality. The “ UR MY SUNSHINE ” crossover collection will be available at limited brick-and-mortar stores and the official websites of URBAN RESEARCH/WHITEROCK on 7/2 (Fri.).
